Chelsea’s Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic has said that he would very much prefer Chelsea to be the underdogs in the Champions League this season. Chelsea will have the chance to compete in the sixth semi-final in just nine years, but have the worst record thereafter. Chelsea have had just one final appearance in the Champions League, while they are yet to win the trophy itself.

UNITED TARGET SUBOTIC

Manchester United will be launching an official bid for the Serbian defender Neven Subotic of Borussia Dortmund with a view of using him to replace the ageing Nemanja Vidic.

Many reports suggested that Manchester United will consider starting the bidding process at around £16 million, while the player is expected to be valued at around £ 20 million by his current club.

FA are set to withdraw certain delegates from the Serbian Olympic Committee. Top sport in Serbia could enter a serious crisis should certain Serbian Football Association officials’ intentions come to fruition, as they are advocating for a complete break off in the relationship with the Serbian Olympic Committee. The reason behind the proposal is the criticism and accusations SOC president Vlade Divac has directed at FA officials, while the initiative is to be started during Thursday’s meeting of the FA Executive Committee.

SERBIAN COACH SACKED

Serbian National Team have fired Vladimir Petrovic Pizhon is the new head coach of the Serbian National football team. The Football Federation unanimously decided to fire Radomir Antic.

As primary reasons for the firing were his salary of 100,000 euros/month, Serbia’s weak start in the Euro 2012 qualifying as well as the last place in the group stages in South Africa. Antic was also punished by FIFA, forbidding him to coach the national team for four matches.

SERBIA RECORD WIN

Serbia recorded an win in its opening Euro 2012 qualifiers against Faroe Islands. 2010 World Cup finalists Serbia got off to a flying start in their quest to qualify for the Euro 2012 finals as they defeated Faroe Islands 3-0 away. Danko Lazovic opened the scoring as early as the 14th minute and then four minutes later Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic made it 2-0. A minute into injury-time Nikola Zigic netted Serbia’s third.

SERBIA NAME FINAL SQUAD

Serbia coach Radomir Antic cut Vojvodina Novi Sad goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic from the final World Cup squad on Tuesday.

Antic took four goalkeepers to a training camp in Austria but decided to leave Brkic out of the 23-man squad that will travel to the tournament in South Africa.

“I had to leave one player out and such a decision is never easy to make. I told Zeljko that being in the training camp should be a stimulus for his career and that I still will count on him,” Antic told reporters Tuesday, according to Tanjug news agency.

SERBIA MISS JANKOVIC

Genoa midfielder Bosko Jankovic will miss the rest of the Serie A season and will be unavailable for Serbia’s World Cup campaign after injuring his left knee earlier this month.

Jankovic played just 15 minutes of the 0-0 draw with Inter Milan and picked up a left knee injury which needs arthroscopic surgery on his meniscus.

The 26-year-old had only just returned after tearing ligaments in the same knee last September.

The news will come as a big blow to Genoa who are chasing a Champions League spot in Serie A and Serbia coach Raddy Antic ahead of the World Cup.
