Serbian national team captain Branislav Ivanovic has said that new Chelsea signing Mohamed Salah reminds him of former winger Arjen Robben, who played for the club for a couple of years before moving onto Real Madrid for £ 24 million.

Robben is regarded as one of the most exciting wingers around due to his ability to go past defenders with ease with his pace and skill. He has played for some of the biggest clubs like Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, while going on to lift numerous trophies including the Champions league.

After the sale of Juan Mata to Manchester United for £ 37.1 million, Chelsea have signed Egyptian winger Salah as a replacement. He has been brought to the club from FC Basel for £ 11 million. The 21-year-old has already played against Chelsea a couple of times in recent years. He was at his imperious best against the blues in the Champions League this campaign. He scored against Jose Mourinho’s men in both legs. He has been subject to interest from the likes of Liverpool, but Chelsea have managed to secure his signing.

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year and half year deal with the club. Ivanovic says that Salah could become the next Robben due to his skills.

“With the ball he is very quick, very smart with his movement, the kind of player that we need in the squad. He reminds me of Robben, the way he plays always going from the right wing but going inside left-footed. He is a great player, one we know because we’ve played against him in the last two years. He is young and has time and it’s maybe good for him to step up. I hope he is going to be important for us,” said Ivanovic about Chelsea’s new signing.
