Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil reckons that his international teammate Lukas Podolski needs confidence more than anything else.
The German striker sealed a £ 1.75 million move to Galatasaray after failing to become a key player at Arsenal. More surprising is the fact that Arsenal have decided to trade him for such a low transfer fee after having signed him originally for around £ 11 million a few years ago. Despite the presence of many German players like Ozil and Per Mertesacker, Lukas Podolski could not settle at the club. Ozil reckons that it may be down to the lack of confidence within the striker.
The former Bayern Munich forward undoubtedly has a lot of potential and talent, but he has not been able to make a significant mark in his career due to the lack of confidence. It was previously the reason behind his failed time at Bayern. Now, it has come back to haunt him once again. Podolski, however, has always managed to perform at a small club due to the less pressure at such outfits. It remains to be seen if the move to Galatasaray will remain him as a player after years on the sidelines. He has featured in less than 35 games each season for the last two campaigns.
“Lukas has had a tough time. That is why I am happy for him. He is a very good friend of mine and I wish him well for the future. The Super Lig is very interesting and Galatasaray need a player like him in their team.He will have no problems there and I am happy Lukas has moved there but he needs the players’ confidence and game time to have an impact. He needs confidence to be a goal threat,” said Ozil about his former Arsenal teammate.
