Serbia’s hopes of qualifying for the Euro 2016 took a major blow after a 2-0 defeat against Denmark.

The team had lost to the last two qualifying matches – against Denmark and Portugal – and were hoping to get a much-needed victory in order to keep their hopes of qualification alive. A 4-1 win over Azerbaijan in a friendly a few days ago when the team much-needed hope of getting a result against Denmark. However, these hopes soon evaporated when Nicklas Bendtner provided an assist forYussufPoulsen in the 13th minute. Confidence soon appeared to go away from Serbia and the late goal fromPoulsen confirmed the victory for the home team.

The defeat leaves Serbia with just one point in the group stages so far. Even minnows Albania have managed to take seven points from the four matches. The national team has been on the disappointing form for quite a while and the off the field issues have not certainly helped matters either. They did, however, have a great chance to get back into the match when Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic’s header from a set piece flew just away from the target. This was one of the closest Serbia came to getting an unlikely point from the match.

The national team will be surrounded by a lot of disappointing faces, as they have a number of top names like Ivanovic. Yet, they have been unable to get results when it matters the most. The likes of Lazar Markovic and Adam Ljalic also present top clubs, but they have not performed for the national team. Serbia’s next match is against Armenia, who are bottom of group. Anything other than a victory will be seen as an end to their qualification hopes. This poor form could see manager RadosavCurcic sacked from his role.
