The Serbian national side can use all the help they can get if making it past the group stages of the 2016 Euro’s is still in the plans of Radovan Curcic and his squad.

Dick Advocaat left the managerial position of the Serbian nation in November of 2014 and now Radovan Curcic has the tough task of pushing the national team into the next rounds of the 2016 Euro’s and in order to increase their chances of making it happen, Borussia Dortmund’s NevenSubotic was called up as the defender was given the chance to represent and help his country when they really need it but the 26 year old player rejected it.

According to the coach of the Serbian nation, Radovan Curcic believes that NevenSubotic will not be making a return to the international stage anytime soon as the defender first has to overcome a number of other obstacles including a knee injury that has made him unable to play a significantly high amount of matches for Borussia Dortmund in this season and the previous one as well.

Radovan Curcic told reporters: “After a sincere dialogue, it is clear that Subotic is not ready to return at the moment. The talk with Subotic was just one of many with those who lead the many potential teams. The match against Portugal is almost upon us and to me it is important to know which players I have so I can prepare for the upcoming duel. Serbia has several options in all places and it is up to me to choose the best one for achieving our ambitions.”

In the last season Subotic had to stay away from the playing grounds for over 8 months due to a knee injury and the defender is still struggling to overcome this problem.

Serbia’s upcoming qualifying match is against Portugal which is going to be played at the Estadio da Luz on March 29.
