All of us know that the teams that play in the lower divisions in any country don’t get the best of facilities and it’s understandable. But, when you see the condition of the lower division teams in Serbia, it will leave you flabbergasted. If the players of those teams manage to get an orange or two during the break, they consider it a luxury. Such is the condition of the game in Serbia.

The story of the clubs which play in the lowest of the divisions is even more bizarre. Their players have to build the goal-post by themselves before the match can actually get started. Yes, the players do that.

As far as the condition of the grounds is concerned, well, it’s not worth talking. Forget about the hardness or softness of the turf, there are some of the venues where more than half of the ground doesn’t have grass and the players are supposed to play a football match on it. Also, you can imagine the situation of such grounds when the rain falls.

When the facilities are like this, you don’t expect too many people to turn up to watch the games. So, it’s not a surprise to see not even a single spectator present to watch the lower division matches in Serbia. All you can find around the ground is cattle herd.

The sad thing is that despite being fully aware of it, the association in Serbia does nothing about it. The lower division teams have been in such pathetic condition for years now and there has not been even the slightest of improvements in the facilities.

After reading this, one can understand why Serbian football has gone downhill so quickly in the last one decade or so. If you don’t care about the game at the grass root level, you are never going to produce players for the top level.
