This is seen as an indirect statement pointing towards a return to the former stomping ground. Mourinho enjoyed remarkable success at Chelsea by guiding the club to their first league title in 50 years. In his two and half years at the club, he managed to lift two league titles and several other major trophies like the FA Cup. The Champions League remains as the only trophy he has failed to lift as a Chelsea manager.
He was hoping to become the first manager in the history of football to have lifted three Champions League titles with three different teams, but Real Madrid were knocked out in the semifinals 4-3 on aggregate to Borussia Dortmund.
“Everyone who loves Chelsea hopes Mourinho will return. As players we don’t have any confirmed information that he would return. But we would all like it to happen because he is one of the best coaches in the world. He is immensely respected by all for what he has done for the club. With him we can be stronger as a club. It would add another dimension to Chelsea, and it would be sure to help us become one of the main contenders for the title,” said Ivanovic.
